Lee Moradi, PhD, PE

WPI School of Engineering, Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering (MME)

 

Lee Moradi joined WPI in February 2022 as a Professor in the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering (MME).  He is also the Co-Director of the Autonomous Vehicle Mobility Institute (AVMI).  Prior to WPI, Lee had 18 years of experience with industry and 25 years as a faculty and director at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).  Lee held several leadership positions at UAB including:

1.     Director of Engineering & Innovative Technology Development (EITD):  A Center supporting research and development for NASA payloads aboard the International Space Station (ISS).  EITD is multidisciplinary organization composed of 35 engineers and technicians with expertise in research, development, and prototyping, and an annual budget of $5M-$6M.

2.     General Manager for the Autonomous Vehicle Mobility Institute (AVMI) involved in research and development of off-road autonomous vehicles.

3.     Interim Chair of Department of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE)

4.     Associate Dean of Research for the School of Engineering

5.     Program Manager for the UAB Grand Challenge

6.     Professor of Mechanical Engineering specializing in the areas of stress, dynamics, controls, vibrations, finite element analysis and simulation, systems engineering, quality management, and organizational theory.

7.     His other areas of expertise include analysis, design, test, verification, and management of complex systems and programs for DoD, DoE, Nuclear, Rail, and Automotive industries.
