Dr. Ghasemi is an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He received his PhD degree from Villanova University, Villanova, PA in 2013, and his BS and MS degrees from The K. N. Toosi Univerity of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 2004 and 2007, respectively. Prior joining WPI, he was a Research Scientist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham from 2020 to 2022. Furthermore, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Texas A&M University from 2014 to 2018. Dr. Ghasemi was a Senior Control Systems Engineer at FG Innovations, Inc. from 2018 to 2019. He has served as a Technical Lead at DENSO International America, Inc. from 2014 to 2015. Dr. Ghasemi is a member of ASME, IEEE, and SAE. He has served as PI and co-PI of several projects funded by Automotive Research Center. He received the Automotive Research Center Awards in 2023 and 2025. He has four patent applications and published more than 40 journal and conference papers with contributions on control theory, distributed and multiagent systems, robotics, oil drilling systems, hybrid electric vehicles, and autonomous vehicles. His current research interests are in control theory, nonlinear control, autonomous vehicles, and electric machines and powertrains.
