Benita Brahmbhatt serves as Associate General Counsel at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where she advises on a wide range of legal, compliance, and risk management matters in support of the University’s mission and operations.
Prior to joining WPI, Benita spent nine years at the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, where she served as a Senior Attorney. In that role, she led complex civil rights investigations across higher education and K–12 institutions, negotiated resolution agreements, and regularly mediated disputes between institutions and complainants.
Earlier in her career, Benita practiced at Keker & Van Nest LLP in San Francisco, where she represented clients in high‑stakes criminal and civil litigation. She also clerked for judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.
Benita earned her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, and her B.A. from Macalester College
