Matthew Thaler serves as WPI’s Vice President & General Counsel.   As General Counsel, Matt advises university clients on a broad range of issues affecting higher education, including litigation and dispute resolution, enterprise risk management, student affairs, research and intellectual property, federal and state policy compliance, labor and employment, contract negotiations, and institutional governance.  He brings more than two decades of legal experience spanning private practice, industry leadership, and higher education. He has served WPI in the Office of the General Counsel since 2018 with increasing levels of responsibility, including as WPI’s Interim General Counsel.

Prior to joining WPI in 2018, Matt served in the in-house legal office of a NASDAQ-listed software company. Earlier in his career, he practiced law in two leading global law firms, Goodwin Procter LLP and Proskauer Rose LLP. He earned a Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from Bates College.
