Moving In 2019

We are excited to officially welcome the class of 2023 to the WPI campus for Move-In Day, beginning at 8:30am on Sunday, August 18, 2019.

In order to ensure a safe experience for the entire WPI community, traffic patterns on WPI’s campus, and surrounding city streets will be impacted for the day, beginning at 7 am.

In order to provide a smooth move-in experience we ask that residents arrive AFTER their assigned time.

WPI Residential Services Early Move-In Policy:

Each summer Residential Services, Facilities, Network Operations and Campus Police work in partnership to prepare the Residence Halls for the upcoming academic year. This includes capital improvement projects, repairs, painting, carpet cleaning, and general building and systems maintenance. At the same time, Residential Services provides housing to a full complement of summer camps and conferences as well as summer students through the beginning of August. In order to make sure that the residence halls are fully prepared for students returning, residential students are strongly discouraged from requesting to move in early before the residence halls officially open.

The official dates for WPI Residence Halls Opening are as follows:

  • First year students - 8:30am, Sunday, August 18, 2019
  • Upperclass students - 8:30am, Monday, August 19, 2019

Each student arriving before the halls officially open requires a number of action steps to be completed by WPI staff to ensure they can be received appropriately in on campus housing. This includes inspecting each room to ensure that summer repairs are complete and the room is cleaned, activating student card access, pulling the room key, updating rosters for facilities and campus police, etc. For these reasons, WPI has implemented the following early arrival policy:

  • Students who need to arrive to campus early must submit a request to do so by Friday, August 9, 2019. Please note that submitting a request does not guarantee approval and that only students with extenuating circumstances will be granted permission to move in early.
  • The earliest date and time any student will be allowed to move in is Friday, August 16, 2019 at 8:30 am.
  • If a student has been approved to move-in early, there will be a charge of $75 for each night of stay prior to the official opening dates for the residence halls:
    • First year students - 8:30am, Sunday, August 18, 2019
    • Upperclass students - 8:30am, Monday, August 19, 2019.
  • For students who fail to seek prior approval for early move-in and arrive before the official opening of the residence halls, there will be an additional $50 charge.
  • Students who arrive to campus before 8:30am, Friday, August 16, 2019 will not be permitted access to their residence hall and will need to seek alternate arrangements.
  • Early arrival approvals are for the individual student alone, not the roommate group.
  • NOTE: For any student who is required to return to campus early to participate in a pre-orientation program or pre-season athletic practices, the request/approval process is coordinated by their coach/supervisor.
