Description

On July 4th at 8:45 p.m. WPI Police received a report from a WPI student that earlier today, at 3 p.m., the student returned to their apartment at 110 West Street to find a male suspect inside ransacking the apartment. A verbal and physical confrontation then occurred between the suspect and the student. The suspect fled from the apartment and was last seen on West Street heading towards Dayton Street on a bicycle. The suspect was described as a dark skinned male, mustache, dark colored eyes, 5’4” tall, and wearing a black hoodie. Worcester Police responded and are investigating this incident with the assistance of WPI Police.        

 

Prevention Advice

  • If there is an intruder in your home do not confront, stay in a safe place and call police immediately
  • Make sure there are no ladders or other yard tools that could be used to gain access to a window. Exterior lighting is a deterrent. Inventory your property with a video recorder or camera.
  • Record the serial numbers of your property.
  • Draw your shades.
  • Remove expensive articles from the residence when away for extended periods of time.
  • Establish relationships with neighbors and check on each other's property when away.

Description

On 5/9/21 at  approximately 7:04 pm, a WPI student reported to WPI Police that earlier this evening while she was walking to Riley Hall, an unidentified older white male approached her and asked her to let him in to Alden Hall. The student, did not answer him and he did not ask again. The unidentified male then left campus, westbound on foot in the direction of Institute Road toward Park Avenue. The individual was described as a tall, older light skinned male, wearing a light colored jacket, dark pants, black sneakers with white trim on the bottom, dark hair and a dark colored face mask.  The incident is under investigation by the WPI Police Department. If anyone has any information or that could provide further clarification, please contact the WPI Police Department.

  • Do not hold doors open, and make sure doors closed behind you. 
  • Keep all "Card Access" doors secure.
  • Report to Campus Police any unknown parties who "piggyback" to gain access into "Card Access secured areas".

Description

     On 5/2/21 4:54PM, a student reported to WPI Police that while he was walking at the corner of Salisbury and Lancaster streets (near the Worcester Art Museum), he was hit by an open beer can that was thrown from a vehicle, striking the student in the arm.  There was no conversation between the student and the occupants of the vehicle.  The vehicle traveled south on Lancaster Street after the incident.  The vehicle is described as a black Subaru Forester(newer model) with a Massachusetts plate(unknown number).  Worcester Police and WPI Police are investigating.

On 04/14/21 at approximately 0035 hours WPI Police received a report from a student, who stated that he was walking with three of his friends near the intersection of Highland Street and Dover Street when he was shot on his back and knee with a paintball gun.  None of his friends were shot by the paintball gun.  He stated the vehicle was last seen traveling down Highland Street towards Lincoln Square. He describes the vehicle as an older gray sedan occupied by two college aged individuals. Student reported not injured.

Description

     On 4/7/21 at approx. 2115hrs WPI Police received a report from a student, who stated that he was riding his bicycle on Park Ave by the football field when a car drove past him and one of the occupants threw a water bottle at him, causing the student to fall from his bicycle.  No verbal communication took place between anyone in the car and the student.  The car drove away heading north on Park Ave.  The car is described as a 4 door sedan, occupied by 4 college aged individuals.

Crime Assault and Battery by a Paintball Gun
Description

On Thursday April 01, 2021 at approximately 11:05pm, a WPI student was traveling on a motorized skateboard on the Highland Street sidewalk adjacent to Price Chopper.  The student heard an unknown noise as an older light colored sedan passed by.  When the student returned to their residence, they had noticed what appears to be a paintball mark on their back pack.

The vehicle had continued by the student and proceeded onto Park Avenue.  There was no conversation between the occupants of the vehicle and the WPI Student.  There is no further information about the vehicle and no descriptions provided about any occupants of the vehicle.

Description

On 03/13/21 at approximately 06:15am, a WPI employee reported that they observed a silver four door SUV parked on Institute Rd across from Trowbridge Rd. The occupant of the vehicle was described as a white male, in his 20’s with facial hair. According to the WPI employee, the male was seen looking through a pair of binoculars and what appeared to be in the direction of the Residence Halls. No license plate, make or model of the vehicle could be provided. The vehicle left the area and traveled east on Institute Rd towards West St.

No communication took place between the employee and the suspicious person. The incident is under investigation by the WPI Police Department.  If anyone has any information or that could provide further clarification, please contact the WPI Police Department.

  • BE ALERT when you're alone, beware of who is around you and your surroundings.
  • Trust your instincts.
  • Don't use headphones while walking, driving or jogging. Stay aware of your surroundings at all times.
  • Avoid walking or running alone - instead go walking or jogging with a friend.
  • Try to walk or jog in daylight hours.
  • Always walk in well-lighted areas.
  • Avoid the use of short cuts. Keep to well-travelled roads and populated areas.
  • Choose a route where you can keep away from large bushes or doorways where someone could be lurking. Also vary your route from time to time - don't be predictable.
  • If someone in a vehicle stops and asks you questions, answer from a distance. Do not approach the vehicle or get close enough to be pulled in.
  • If followed, go immediately to an area with lights and people. If needed, turn around and walk in the opposite direction, your follower will also have to reverse directions.
  • Never get into a vehicle with someone you don't know.
  • Keep your cell phone handy at all times. It's your best source of immediate assistance.

On 02/16/2021 at approximately 10:45 AM, a WPI student reported that while walking on Hackfeld Road, they observed a red motor vehicle approach the student. The operator of the vehicle was identified as a white male, wearing a black facemask. According to the student, the male made a gesture toward the student with his hand to get into his vehicle.  The student immediately contacted a friend and remained with that person on the phone until they reached campus.  The student identified the vehicle as a red 4-door sedan, no license plate or further description was able to be provided. The vehicle traveled east on Hackfeld Road and took a right turn on Institute Road. No further direction of travel was identified.

No communication took place between the student and the suspicious person. The incident is under investigation by WPI Police and Worcester Police.
