Description

     On December 8th at approx. 9:41PM a WPI student reported that a suspicious person had walked up the (open) back stairwell of her Apartment House on Highland Street and sat on the stairs.  The individual on the stairwell never made an attempt at entering her apt., but while sitting on the stairs a "box-cutter knife" was observed next to him. Another student walked passed the individual at this time, at which point he told the student he would be leaving in a little while. The individual then left the area after a few minutes without incident.

This person is described as a dark skinned male, in his 30's, medium build, wearing a black hoodie or jacket.

Prevention Advice
  • Be alert, report any suspicious persons or activity to WPI Police
  • Do not hold doors open, and make sure doors closed behind you. 
  • Keep all "Card Access" doors secure.
  • Report to Campus Police any unknown parties who "piggyback" to gain access into "Card Access secured areas".

Description

  On October 13 at approximately 11:41 am, a WPI student reported to the WPI Police that while he was not home, his apartment was broken into. The student reported that he was away from his apartment for the last 24 hours and stated that when he arrived home this morning 10/13/19, he observed his first floor window screen had been cut and the window which was unlocked had been opened. The suspect entered the student's bedroom and took his laptop computer. At this time there is no suspect description or direction of travel. Worcester Police were notified and responded to the scene to assist. 

Prevention Advice
  • Make sure all interior windows and doors are locked and dead bolted when closed.
  • If there is an intruder in your home do not confront, stay in a safe place and call police immediately
  • Make sure there are no ladders or other yard tools that could be used to gain access to a window. Exterior lighting is a deterrent. Inventory your property with a video recorder or camera.
  • Record the serial numbers of your property.
  • Draw your shades.
  • Remove expensive articles from the residence when away for extended periods of time.
  • Establish relationships with neighbors and check on each other's property when away.

Description

      On 9/25/19 at approx. 8:14PM, Two WPI students reported that they had just observed a male riding through Institute Park on a bicycle while exposing himself. The male did not stop or speak to the two students as he rode by them through the park. 

The male is described as: a tall white male in his 30’s, with short dark hair, some facial hair, wearing a dark colored zipper hoodie, and jeans. He was riding a dark colored bicycle.

This incident is still under investigation by the WPI Police and Worcester Police.

    On  09/24/19 at approximately 6:06pm, Two WPI students indicated they observed a suspicious van parked in front of their residence. The van was a gray Ford with lettering written on the side. The two reporting parties advised WPI Police that they observed a male individual described as Hispanic, bald and a beard sitting in the van, engaged in a lewd sexual act. Worcester Police were called to the scene to assist. The male individual was identified. This incident is still under investigation by the WPI and Worcester Police. The individual identified is not affiliated with WPI.

Description

On 08/30/19 at 6:07 pm A WPI student reported a past motor vehicle break in the Lancaster Lot. The student advised WPI Police she parked her vehicle in the Lancaster Lot around 8:30pm on Wednesday 08/28/19 and returned today (Friday 08/30/19) at around 6:00am. The student advised that her vehicle was left unlocked and her purse was located in plain view on the passenger side seat. . The students purse was stolen from the vehicle and contained several items of value to include cash and a debit card. WPI Police are also investigating fraudulent use of items contained within the stolen purse. At this time no suspects have been identified. .

WPI Police will continue to investigate.

On 08/26/19 at approximately 12:12 PM, a WPI student reported to the WPI Police that while walking to class she observed a Dark-skinned male, age range between 30-50 years old, 5’4 and 6ft tall, wearing gray and black clothing. The student reported that she observed this male individual standing by the Pavilion and that he may have exposed himself.

WPI Police and Worcester Police immediately responded to Institute Park to conduct a search for the male individual involved.  A thorough search was conduct in Institute Park and the adjoining areas around the park and no suspect was located at this time.  No further witnesses came forward to corroborate this incident and no further calls were reported regarding this incident.

     On 8/16/19 at approx. 1253PM a student reported to WPI Police that while he was not at home someone attempted to break into his apartment in Salisbury Estates.  The student reported that he was away from his apartment for about 24hrs, and when he returned at approximately 1200PM on 8/16/19 he found fresh “pry marks” on the door jamb near the door knob, and also found the outside light above the door to be tampered with and the bulb removed.  Entry was never gained into the apartment.

WPI Police is investigating the incident.

    At 12:06 am WPI Police and Worcester Police responded to 7 Schussler Rd Apt 2 off campus for an attempted Breaking and Entering. The caller who was identified as a WPI student advised Dispatch  that they were awoken abruptly when they heard footsteps on the fire escape and someone attempting to open their window. The caller stated when they awoke and made the suspect aware that someone was in the residence, the suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction. The caller advised police that they did not observe the suspect or identify them. The residence and surrounding area was searched thoroughly. No suspect was located at this time. .

     On 6/15/19 a student reported to WPI Police that on 6/14/19 at approx 10:30PM she was accosted while walking on Somerset Street.  The Student reports that she was walking on Somerset Street toward William Street when she encountered 3 males (2 white males, and 1 light skinned Hispanic or black male, all in their 20's).  The males began to yell obscenities and vulgar statements at the student.  The student changed direction and began to walk away from the group, but was followed by the 3 individuals who continued to yell obscenities and threatening language at her.  She was able to get some distance from the group, and evaded them, at which time they left the area on foot.

On 05/07/19 WPI Police received a report of an attempt breaking and entering on an off campus property. A WPI student reports that at approximately 07:56 AM she woke up to a sharp clicking sound outside her apartment window. She checked both windows and observed a person, about 5'5", skinny, wearing a black padded winter jacket with a no fur hood with a bright pink backpack.  She banged on the window and the suspect took off jumping over a wall, fence and through a parking lot. No other direction of travel provided.

     On 4/20/19 WPI Police received a report of a suspicious person in the area of Salisbury Street at Boynton Street.  A WPI student reports that at approx.1:30AM she was walking west on Salisbury Street heading to Salisbury Estates when she observed a male following/walking behind her.  The male was described as a white male in his 50's wearing a brown "zip style" jacket , and was balding.  This male made inappropriate comments to the student during the time she walked on Salisbury Street until the student decided to enter Goddard Hall.  A that point the male continued walking and left the area.

     On 4/12/19 at approx. 4:35PM WPI Police received a call of an aggressive panhandler in the area of Einhorn Road and Institute Road.  An employee reports that while walking to her vehicle she was encountered by a white male in his 40's, approx. 5' 8", with a scruffy beard, and a tattoo on his face, wearing baggy pants and a flat brim hat.  The male asked her for money and appeared intoxicated.  When the employee refused to give him money, he continued to follow her and ask for money until the employee got into her vehicle.

Description

 

   The WPI Police Department responded with the Worcester Police to 11 Goulding St for the report of a past Assault and Battery.  At around 11:30 pm the victim, a WPI student was outside on the sidewalk taking out their trash when they were approached by an unknown male. This male was described as a dark skinned male 6'2, wearing dark baggy jeans and a dark hooded sweatshirt. The male suspect assaulted the victim out in the front of their residence. The assault lasted no more than a few seconds . The suspect fled on foot towards the direction of Highland St. There were no witnesses to the incident and currently there are no suspects at this time. The WPI Police Department and the Worcester Police are actively investigating the incident.
