Academics
Undergraduate Program
- The degree incorporates mathematics, science, engineering, entrepreneurship, design, and social implications.
- All students are expected to graduate having completed a capstone project, demonstrating team-based professional-level design or research.
BS/MS Program
The BS/MS program at WPI allows students to accelerate their education by pursuing a combined Bachelor's and Master’s degree over five years, with the opportunity to double-count up to 12 credits. This credit overlap can be achieved through several mechanisms that can be found by viewing the Graduate Catalog.
To complete the BS/MS program, students must submit the Bachelor's and Master’s Degree Course Designation Form, signed by the Graduate Coordinator or Department Head, to the registrar. This form, available on the registrar's website, should be submitted during the intended graduation semester for simultaneous BS/MS degree completion, or within the first semester after receiving the Bachelor’s degree if graduation dates are separate.
Graduate Program
The master’s program educates students to:
- Develop advanced knowledge in selected areas of robotics, culminating in a capstone research or design experience.
- Have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mathematics, and Mechanical Engineering underlying robotic systems.
- Have an awareness of the management and systems contexts within which robotic systems are engineered.
The PhD program educates students to:
- Make significant research contributions in selected areas of robotics.
- Have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mathematics, and Mechanical Engineering underlying robotic systems.
- Apply tools and concepts from Management and Systems Engineering to realize robotics systems and exercise professional leadership.
Certificate Programs
RBE Management Certificate
- Interdisciplinary program involving faculty from Robotics and the Business School.
- A fundamentals of robotics–focused program to assist in career advancement or as the first step to a Master of Science in the field.
