Course Design & Support
If you are interested in creating and/or certifying a course you teach as Writing-Intensive (WI), WPI offers you a number of resources to answer your questions and offer assistance.
Resources for Course Design
- Faculty members interested in designing writing-intensive courses or revising current courses for WI certification are encouraged to attend the Spring Institute on Teaching with Writing, where they can learn best practices, devote time to course planning, and share ideas with other interested faculty. A professional development stipend may be available to those completing the Institute.
- Professional development workshops for WI courses are also scheduled throughout the year, or you can make an appointment for individual consultation by contacting Lorraine Higgins.
- For examples and additional resources, see our Showcase of Teaching Materials.
- Colorado State University also maintains a clearinghouse for Writing Across the Curriculum Resources, including a useful bibliography of articles and books about writing in many disciplines.
Teaching Support
Training workshops for Teaching Assistants (TAs) and Peer Learning Assistants (PLAs) who assist with student writing in WI courses may be available through the CxC. Contact Lorraine Higgins to learn more.
WI faculty may also contact Writing Center director Ryan Madan to arrange designated writing tutors for WI courses. Your students may also make individual tutoring appointments at the Writing Center through our online registration system.
