Dear WPI Community,

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for most of the Worcester region, with forecasts calling for significant snowfall beginning Wednesday afternoon and continuing throughout the evening before tapering off Thursday midday. Accordingly, WPI is cancelling all classes, events and activities from noon Wednesday, March 7, through 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 8.  All non-essential personnel are asked to leave campus by noon Wednesday in order to get home and stay off the roads. Offices will open and activities will resume at 10:00 a.m. Thursday.

The campus will remain open. Throughout the duration of the storm, essential personnel will be on campus to ensure the safety and well-being of our community and our facilities; employees should check with their supervisors to determine their status.

The Gateway Shuttle will not be in service after noon Wednesday and will resume at 10:00 a.m. Thursday.

Parking Modifications:

In order to assist our snow team with the formidable job of campus upkeep during the storm, the following parking modifications are in effect:

  • Essential Employees with Valid Permits:  All surface lots will close at midnight Wednesday to allow for snow clearance. When returning to campus Thursday morning, please use the Park Avenue or Gateway Garage; all other lots will remain closed until further announcement.
  • Residential Students: Residential surface parking lots will continue normal operations.

The Dean Street garage will continue normal operations.

As a reminder, during snow emergencies the City of Worcester imposes its own parking restrictions on city streets bordering the campus. Information is available at http://www.worcesterma.gov/streets/winter-weather/winter-parking for updates; you can also sign up for the city’s parking alerts via this site.

WPI’s grounds team works continuously to clear and maintain walkways and surface areas. However, we encourage everyone in the WPI community to use caution during the storm. Please be aware of predicted high winds and other effects of inclement weather.

Should you find yourself in an on-campus emergency situation, please call WPI Campus Police at 508-831-5555.
