Caraline Wood batted 2-for-3 with a walk, home run, three RBI and two runs scored as Softball defeated Muhlenberg (PA), 7-4, to earn a split on the first day of the 2018 campaign Sunday at the Sunkissed Games. The Engineers were edged, 2-1, in the season opener by Alfred.  Wood erased an early deficit with a two-run shot to left in the bottom of the first. Muhlenberg countered with two in the top of the third; however, senior Ama Biney tripled and scored on a miscue and Kylie Juarez chased home sophomore Cassie Graca with a hit through the gap on the left side.

Hayley Poskus and Randy Melanson closed out the 2017-18 WPI swimming & diving season Saturday at the NCAA Division III Northeast North Diving Regional, hosted by Middlebury. After Poskus took 23rd on the 1-meter, Melanson claimed 16th on the 3-meter.  Poskus, and the Class of 2018, extended the program's streak of .500 or better seasons to eight while accounting for nearly half of head coach Paul Bennett's 75 women's victories. On the men's side, Melanson and company earned double-digit dual meet wins all four years and saw Bennett surpass 100 wins.

Austin Scott and Ryan Wittenberg bettered their NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship qualifying times as select members of the Track & Field program took part in the Tufts National Qualifier Saturday in the Gantcher Center.  Scott, who came into the week 11th on the performance list, landed at No. 13 in the mile while Wittenberg clocked a school record 1:52.81 (1:51.22 converted) to move from 11th to fourth on the 800-meter run leader board.

The winter NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship teams were recently revealed following a busy championship weekend. Men's Basketball was represented by senior Chris Rodgers while senior Maura Buckley was the women's basketball selection. Senior diver Randy Melanson and senior swimmer Jenny Day were the men's and women's swimming & diving picks, respectively.

Baseball and Softball combine for 20 scheduled games this week in Florida over spring break.  Baseball is in Auburndale at the RussMatt Invitational while Softball is in Kissimmee at the Sunkissed Games.  Friday and Saturday sees competition in NCAA Championships as Justin Marsh (157 pounds) is in Cleveland for Wrestling while Ryan Wittenberg (800 Meters), Austin Scott (mile), Sydney Packard (800 meters) and the Women’s Distance Medley Relay of Emily Newman, Maggie LaRoche, Lea Strangio and Packard head to Birmingham, Alabama for Track and Field.
