Assistant Professors Yihao Zheng of the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering and Haichong Zhang and Adam Lammert of the Department of Biomedical Engineering are part of collaborative teams involving UMass Chan researchers who received one-year grants.
Zheng is part of a team that will examine why the immune system attacks some pancreatic insulin-producing cells but not others in people with Type 1 diabetes. Zhang will work on a project focused on robotic-assisted optical imaging of transplant organs. Lammert will validate a new way to characterize tinnitus, a prevalent hearing condition involving ringing sound in the ears.
