STEVEN D’AGOSTINO – BASEBALL

• Steven D’Agostino of the baseball team has been selected as the WPI Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 13.  D’Agostino, of Shrewsbury, Mass., had a pair of outstanding starts for the Engineers during WPI’s spring break trip to Central Florida.  The sophomore lefthander began his week by punching out five in a three-hit shutout of Waynesburg (PA) and wrapped up the trip by fanning seven in six innings of work during a 17-1 victory over Wentworth.  For the week, D’Agostino was 2-0 on the mound with a 0.69 ERA.  He struck out 12 and walked just two while holding opponents to a .182 batting average.

AMA BINEY – SOFTBALL

• Ama Biney of the softball team has been honored as the WPI Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 13.  Biney, who hails from Worcester, was simply amazing for WPI during the Engineers’ spring break trip to Central Florida.  After playing in the NCAA basketball tournament the Friday of departure, the sophomore batted a jaw-dropping .645 as the Crimson and Gray posted an 8-2 record.  Biney registered a hit in every contest–20 in all–including homers versus Penn State Behrend and Plymouth State.  The centerfielder also amassed four doubles and a pair of triples en route to registering a 1.097 slugging percentage.  She also scored 16 runs, drove in another seven, was a perfect 9-for-9 on stolen base attempts and successfully handled all 16 of her defensive chances, including a key assist at the plate to end the bottom of the sixth inning of a tie game versus St. Joseph’s (ME) in a game that the Engineers won in the seventh inning.
