What

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) will host a performance of the "Best of the Sacred Concerts" by Duke Ellington.

Who

The concerts will be performed by the Master Singers of Worcester, Malcolm Halliday, artistic director; the WPI Concert Choir, John Delorey, director; and the WPI Stage Band, Richard Falco, director. The concerts will feature Monica Hatch, soprano; Theresa Thomason, mezzo-soprano; Jeff Ramsey, baritone; Sherman Whitman, narrator; Josh Hilberman, tap dancer; Jay Daly, trumpet; Joe Pisano, baritone sax; and Zach Chadwick, tenor sax.

Why

Between 1965 and 1973, in the last years of his life, jazz band leader and composer Duke Ellington wrote three massive works combining elements of jazz, classical music, choral music, spirituals, gospel, blues and dance.
