Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) today will hold "Healthcare on the Verge," its third annual F. J. Aspinwall Symposium. It will feature panel discussions on the latest interdisciplinary research, emerging businesses and business models, and innovative partnerships that are working well today in the healthcare industry.

Eric W. Dickson, MD, president and chief executive officer of UMass Memorial Health Care, will deliver the keynote presentation, "Diamonds in the Rough: How the Best Healthcare Systems Are Delivering Value to Their Communities."

"When people work together to improve the health of their communities, special things happen," Dickson said. "At the upcoming Healthcare Delivery Institute Symposium I will be highlighting the work of four healthcare systems that have worked with their communities to deliver high-quality healthcare for less."

Featured industry experts also include leaders from EMC Corp., IBM Corp., Xerox Corp., NXT Health LLC, Philips Research North America, and AgaMatrix Inc.

"Healthcare is on the verge of a new era – where integrated quality care is accessible, focused on keeping people healthy, and delivered to wherever people may be. It is through active, multidisciplinary collaborations and partnerships that this future of healthcare delivery will be realized,” said Vera Tice, managing director of HDI.

The Healthcare Delivery Institute at WPI, in partnership with the University of Massachusetts Medical School, is working with external partners to actively address the national and global challenge of creating the future of healthcare delivery.

A highlight of the conference will be an "Innovation Showcase," in which faculty research and faculty-led student projects and demonstrations will be on display. The symposium is sponsored in part by Xerox Corp, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, and EMC Corp.
