Campus Photos
Canto is the platform for hosting WPI's professional photography. Within the new portal you can search, sort, filter and download a wide variety of campus photos. Below are some basic instructions on how to navigate the portal along with a link to Canto.
Photos are Organized by Folders and Albums
The Canto Public Portal is organized into folders and albums based on subject matter, location, events, and areas of focus.
Click on a folder to view the subfolders or albums within that category. Albums contain curated collections of approved photography for institutional use.
Use folders to browse by category, or use search tools to quickly locate specific images.
Use the Folder Tree or Search by Tags
There are three primary ways to find images in Canto:

Navigate through folders and subfolders to explore organized collections of images.
Use AI Search
Canto’s AI-powered search allows you to type natural phrases into the search bar, such as “students in a lab,” “campus in winter,” or “robotics competition.” The system intelligently analyzes image content and metadata to return relevant results — even if those exact words are not included in the file name.
Filter by Tags
On the right side of the screen, you will see yellow drop-down menus labeled Tags. Tags allow you to refine and narrow your search results.
To use tags:
- Begin typing in the tag field.
- Select from the existing tag options that appear.
- Click the plus (+) button to apply the tag filter.
Tags are more precise than general keyword searches because they are pre-defined within the system.
You cannot create new tags. Only existing tags may be selected.
Examples of common tags include:
- Building names, landmarks, or campus environments
- Programs, departments, or academic areas
- Events or initiatives
- Seasons or destinations
For best results, combine AI search with tag filters to quickly refine your results.

If you are unable to locate a specific photo, please email gr-marketing-photography@wpi.edu with details about what you need, including subject matter, location, timeframe, and intended use.
