Description

Why did you choose to study at WPI?

I chose to study at WPI because of their pioneering robotics engineering program. Many other schools offered concentrations or minors, but WPI has a full major and sets the standard for other engineering programs.

How are you involved with the WPI community?

I am involved with numerous performing arts groups on campus: Audiophiles A Capella, Vox Musical Theatre, Empty Set comedy group, and Glee Club, chief among them. I enjoy the community surrounding these clubs and the opportunity to perform, which is something that brings me joy.

What’s your favorite thing about WPI?

One of my favorite things about WPI is the community. Students in any club could love music or theater but also study engineering or another STEM field. I sing Mozart in choir at one moment, then work with others on calculus problems the next moment. Everyone is so supportive. When you find your people, you feel at home.

Do you have a faculty or staff mentor?

One faculty member that has been influential to me is Mustapha Fofana. I took one of his classes in sophomore year and I answered a trigonometry question during one lecture. From then on, I was ‘Trig Guy’! It was a large class, but after I made an impression, Professor Fofana would greet me when we saw each other around campus. He even wrote me a recommendation letter for a job application! He made me feel recognized and supported.

How has WPI’s project-based learning influenced your education?

Project-based learning has given me the experience necessary to understand the concepts learned in class. A great example of this was in the class Unified Robotics I. The labs and projects in that class let me practice the three facets of robotics engineering. I was comfortable with mechanics, but I needed to exercise my programming and electrical assembly knowledge.
