Concert Band Annual Performance on February 18

The performance will feature musical scores from Disney films, Star Wars, Les Miserables
February 10, 2017

Professor Douglas Weeks, Coordinator of Music, will conduct the WPI Concert Band in its annual performance at Alden Memorial at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18.

In previous years the group has played songs associated with a particular theme. Students select the theme and, depending on the popularity and availability of the music, individual pieces are selected. Past themes have been associated with oceans, heavens, and the elements of earth, fire, water, and air.

This year's theme is “The Movies.” On the program are various pieces from Disney movies, Lord of the Rings, The Blues Brothers, the Star Wars series, and even Schindler’s List. Soloists Sebastian Espinosa ’17 and Katherine Pelissari ’18 will be featured in music from Les Miserables.

“From the hundreds of great movie music themes to choose from, we narrowed it down to a small number that would have appeal to both the student performers and members of the audience,” Weeks says. “The members of the band as well as the directors were part of that process.”

The concert is free and open to the public. Check out the concert's event page in the University Calendar for more details.
