The science behind an effective herbal antibiotic - Higgins Labs 218 Professor Pam Weathers, Biology and Biotechnology Artemisia annua (sweet annie, sweet wormwood) is an effective medicinal herb with use that dates back 2,000 years via the Chinese. This plant produces artemisinin the current best treatment against malaria. However, oral consumption of the dried leaves of the plant are proving far more effective than the pure drug in treating malaria, even artemisinin drug resistant malaria. This talk will show how science is being used to help explain how this plant is indeed so much more powerful that the pure drug in treating malaria and potentially many other artemisinin-susceptible infectious diseases.
