- Science and Technology for Innovation in Africa: A Panel Discussion
Science and technology have important roles to play in the improvement of well-being no matter where one lives in the world. Despite the potential, efforts to enlist science and technology to improve people’s lives in the Global South has a troubled past. Today, WPI and its partners across sub-Saharan Africa demonstrate what authentic, peer-to-peer, scientific knowledge production and technological innovation can look like. It starts with a recognition that scientific knowledge and technological innovation occur largely outside the labs and other traditional domains of western expertise. It is also respectful of different traditions. Indeed, Africans have a long history of solving their own problems through scientific discovery and technological innovation. This event celebrates our rich partnerships and deep engagements with organizations based in and doing work in sub-Saharan Africa. Together we will share with those in attendance the exciting work WPI and its partners are carrying out in Africa under the auspices of Science and Technology for Development.
