Project Title: Lionfish Bot 2.0

When: Friday Feb 1st @ 10 AM

Where: 85 Prescott Conference room

Project Abstract:

Lionfish continue to invade the reefs of the Caribbean and beyond, decimating fish populations and causing large damage to the ecosystem in which they are residing. Seeing as these fish have no natural predators, to keep up with the species population the idea has been proposed to develop a robotic solution to harvest these tasty fish. Our team has partnered with Robots in Service of the Environment (RSE) to work on three subsystems of their robot. The first being the electrode system being utilized in order to stun the fish underwater so that the robot can intake the fish into the holding tank. The second being the mechanism by which the robot actually intakes the stunned fish into the robot. Lastly, we are working to develop a lionfish classification system by which the robot will be able to positively or negatively identify lionfish underwater to allow for future autonomous development.
