Description: In preparation for National Engineers Week, the STEM Education Center at WPI offers a free professional development focused on making sure STEM is equitable for all students. This interactive workshop is run in two parts. The morning session is an introduction to diversity and equity in STEM education, building shared understanding on how bias, stereotypes, and other societal factors often exclude certain student identities, making it harder for them to pursue STEM majors and careers. High level, research-based strategies for increasing accessibility to STEM will be shared. In the afternoon, we will do a deeper dive into these topics. Participants will ultimately create individual goals and plans for ways that they plan to make STEM more accessible for all, receiving feedback from the facilitators and peers. Participants are welcome to attend just the morning session, just the afternoon session (if they feel they already are well versed in diversity and equity in STEM), or both.
Morning Session: 8:30-11:30 am
Afternoon Session: 12:30-3:30 pm
