The Worcester County LGBTQ+ History Project has been collecting manuscripts, newspaper clippings, and other artifacts about LGBTQ+ history in Worcester Country. Stewarded by Joe Cullon, many of these materials have been gathered online in the community digital archive LGBTQinthewoo.org, making this history more accessible to people in the Worcester area and beyond.
The WPI community now has an opportunity to volunteer in helping to make more of these materials available online. Join us on Wednesday, October 30, as we add newspaper clippings on the AIDS crisis in Worcester to the digital archive. Volunteers will upload images of the digitized artifacts to the LGBTQ in the Woo Omeka site and provide basic descriptions of the artifacts so that others can appreciate their historical significance. No experience with Omeka is needed, and training will be provided during the event. This collection is an incredibly valuable contribution to LGBTQ+ history in Worcester and is on loan from the Worcester Public Library.
We welcome everyone in the WPI community to this event. If you would like to request an accommodation or have questions about accessibility options, please email Anna Newman at firstname.lastname@example.org by Tuesday, October 29.
