Course Registration
Course registration is one of the most important tasks for students. Use this page to find detailed times and information for upcoming registrations for WPI students. Cross-registration information (participating schools only) and information for non-degree students (sometimes called guest students) is also available.

Note: Undergraduate overload requests will be accepted beginning Monday, April 12, 2026.
* Credits earned reflect total credits earned, including transfer credit, at the time registration begins. Undergraduate class standing (sophomore, junior, etc.) is based on the minimum number of units earned defined in the Undergraduate Catalog. The “rising class” appointment minimums are based on these values (converted to credits) minus a generous allowance for courses in progress for D and summer terms. There are no exceptions to these thresholds.

For New Students
Information regarding registration for new undergraduate and graduate students will be sent to you via email. New graduate students may register once registration is open and they have received and activated their WPI credentials.

How to Register for Courses
Registration in Workday
Course registration takes place in Workday. Prior to registering, please consult instructions available on the WPI Hub.
If you need registration assistance, please see your academic advisor or visit the Registrar's Office.
If you are a current WPI student, log in to Workday. If you are not a WPI student, you must complete and submit the Non-Degree Registration Form--Undergraduate Course to the Registrar's Office to take an undergraduate course or the Non-Degree Registration Form--Graduate Course for a graduate course..

Registration Pointers
Here are some things to be aware of before you get started with course registration in Workday:
- Be sure to check your student records for any holds at least one week prior to your registration starting time. This will give you time to clear any holds before you register.
- Go over your desired schedule with your advisor before you attempt to register.
- When adding and dropping classes, view any unresolved errors.
- Workday will check time conflicts when you register. You must resolve the conflict by changing one of the courses before your registration will be accepted.
- You may make changes to your schedule in Workday during your scheduled registration time, and any time registration is open.
- ALWAYS confirm your schedule after making changes by viewing your courses in Workday. Changes should be immediately available.
Registration for Undergraduate Independent Study
Undergraduate students registering for an Independent Study (ISU) should complete the Undergraduate Independent Study Form (PDF).
Registration for Undergraduate Independent Music Lesson
Undergraduate students registering for independent music lessons please use the Undergraduate Independent Instruction (Lessons) in Music Registration Form (PDF).
Registration for Humanities & Arts Inquiry Seminar
Registration for HU 3900 or 3910 requires instructor approval. Submit a registration request through e-projects to request this approval. Visit this article for instructions on registering.

Add/Drop Deadlines and Course Withdrawals
7-Week Courses - Undergraduate and Graduate
A student can add a course without a fee through the fifth day of classes. On the sixth through the tenth day of classes, students can add courses (with instructor approval) with a $100 late fee.
Students can drop courses on days 1-10 of each term without incurring a late fee. For undergraduates in 7-week courses, no adds or drops are allowed after the tenth day of the term. For graduate students in 7-week courses who withdraw from a course after the tenth day, but before the end of the fifth week of the term, a W (Withdrawal) will be assigned. Tuition will be adjusted for individual course withdrawals based on the schedule posted for Leaves of Absence and Official Withdrawal.

10-week courses - Undergraduate (summer only) and Graduate
Students can make course changes (add or drop) without penalty through the tenth day of the semester. A $100 late fee will be charged for course adds after the tenth day of the semester and instructor permission is required.
Students can drop courses on days 1-10 of each term without incurring a late fee. For undergraduates in 10-week courses, no adds or drops are allowed after the tenth day of the term. How to Withdraw from an Individual Course (graduate students only)
Graduate students wishing to withdraw from a course after the add/drop deadlines but before the withdraw deadlines outlined above must email registrar@wpi.edu from their WPI email account with the request, including the course number and section. The request must be received by the withdrawal deadline.
Students who wish to withdraw from all the courses they are registered for in a given semester should take a Leave of Absence or Official Withdrawal as appropriate.
