COL Arthur Elbthal teaches Military Science and Military History courses at WPI, Fitchburg State University and UMASS Lowell since 2018.
Arthur retired from the United States Army with the rank of Colonel in 2018 after a 30-year career. He served in Infantry assignments from Rifle Platoon Leader to Infantry Battalion Commander in the Army National Guard. Later assignments included advisor to the Afghan National Security Forces, Director of Operations for Joint Force HQ-Massachusetts, and Army Strategist. He also taught Counter-Insurgency and 21st Century Warfare at the Army War College. Colonel Elbthal has a Bachelor Degree in Business and a Master’s Degree in Strategy. He is a graduate of the United States Army War College, the National Defense University Joint Forces Staff College, and The NATO School in Germany. He is a National Security Fellow at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University and he holds a graduate certificate in Leadership from Harvard University JFK School of Government in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
