As part of their overall research interest in how technology can improve the delivery of healthcare, Diane Strong and Bengisu Tulu, faculty researchers in The Business School, apply funding from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health to create apps that give patients more control over their own well-being, reduce the need for doctor visits and other interventions, and to improve the quality of care that physicians and other healthcare providers can deliver.
Detecting Wound Infections
With award from NIH, a team Led by Jurist Dean’s Professor Emmanuel Agu develops a smartphone app that uses photographs, heat images, and algorithms to detect infections in the open wounds of patients at home.

I love teaching entrepreneurship because of the amazing innovations that students ideate and then create businesses around. I like the quote attributed to both Homer (the philosopher, not the father of Bart) and Steve Jobs, "The journey is the reward." I’m honored to be able to guide the WPI students through their journeys of not only learning about business ownership, but also actually building something - whether it’s a prototype, a minimally viable product (MVP) or a company. Being in a university setting provides students with a safety net to fail fast and pivot thei ...

It’s not truly knowledge until the student can grasp and apply it. I take any opportunity possible to introduce new technologies and social networking behaviors that I feel are relevant into my daily classroom activities. ...
